The Orange Stipple Sponge is a soft, aerated open-cell sponge used by professional makeup artists to create realistic mottled skin textures for SFX and character work. Its irregular surface deposits product unevenly, mimicking the natural variation of skin — ideal for building convincing bruising, blood effects, grime, dirt and five o'clock shadow directly onto the skin.
Softer than a standard stipple sponge, the orange variety produces more subtle, blendable results — making it well suited to effects that need to read naturally on camera rather than on stage.
Compatible with a wide range of SFX and cream products including Supracolor, Aquacolor and body paints and alcohol activated palettes.

Load the sponge lightly with your chosen product — Supracolor, Aquacolor, a cream or alcohol activated SFX colour — and dab onto a palette or the back of the hand first to remove excess before applying to the skin. Use a light stippling motion, pressing and lifting rather than dragging, to build up texture gradually. Layer colours to add depth and realism — for example, combining deep reds, purples and yellows to create a convincing bruise. For beard stubble, use a dark brown or grey tone and stipple lightly along the jaw, upper lip and chin, building density gradually. Ideal for various mottled or broken vein effects. Clean between colours by blotting on a dry tissue or using a quick-dry brush cleaner.
